Our leadership team is entirely made up of volunteers who enjoy running scout meetings and camps! All adult leaders have training and a CRB check, and there is always at least one adult who is first aid qualified.
If you would like the opportunity to do something you’d never thought of doing, while having lots of fun and giving back to the community at the same time, please get in touch – we can always do with more leaders! You don’t have to be an expert in all-things-scouting – the only essential ingredient is wanting to have fun scouting!
Dan
Hi, I’m Dan and I am currently the lead volunteer with our Scout section at 4th Wilmslow. With our current roll of 17 members we have one of the largest, most enthusiastic, and energetic group of Scouts in the area, and we are growing all the time, both as our young people graduate from Cubs, but also as through direct admission – it’s never too late to get involved!
As a child, I was never actually a member of Scouts myself, although my older brother was, so I fear it had something to do with a concern about the likelihood of me misbehaving, but I practically lived outdoors and could often be found close to the top of the tallest tree I could find.
As a teenager my longstanding interest in all things aviation and, sadly still unrealised, ambition to one day be a pilot led to me join the Air Training Corps (ATC). As a Cadet in the ATC, I got to take part in so many amazing things that it is hard to list them all, but these included:
- Flying & Gliding
- Shooting (both air weapons and live ammunition)
- Camping, Hillwalking & Mountaineering
- Visiting various RAF bases and ROC posts
- Collecting on behalf of the Poppy Appeal and participating in Remembrance Day Parades
As a Dad myself now, I have three children who are all members of 4th Wilmslow; a daughter who is in Beavers, a son in Cubs, and another daughter who has been a Scout for two-years having previously been a Cub. They each love the things that they get to do as members of their respective sections, the friends they have made, and to be honest, their list of memories already puts my one from my Cadet days in the shade.
